our heritage as one of the Mountain State's founding families. The family originally settled in Rockingham/Augusta County, Virginia area; West Virginia descendants including George Alford and his wife Mary Byrnside were pioneer settlers in Monroe County, West Virginia and later the area of Cabell County, West Virginia that became Lincoln County. George Alford's son Robert 'Robin' Alford, along with Robert’s sons Adam Alford, George Washington Alford and Joseph Alford fought for the Confederacy in the War of Southern Secession. Our family is rich in lore with a history of public service. I started research on my family genealogy in the mid-1970's. The purpose of this website is to document the research and provide a common point for sharing information with our families. All of the families listed have their roots in the Lincoln, Kanawha, Putnam and Boone County areas of West Virginia and further back to the 'Old Dominion State.' My goal is to preserve the family's information pictorially and in writing for succeeding generations of Alfords. A separate website at: http://www.angelfire.com/wv2/AlfordGenealogy has been established for my other paternal families (excluding the ALFORD family which is covered on this website at the URL listed above). Your assistance in keeping the information in both the descendant list and family history report up to date with corrections and updates will be greatly appreciated. I want to express my sincere thanks to many of our relatives who have provided and verified data and provided photographs. In the meantime, please contact me if you would like to share information about your line of the Alford Family of West Virginia and Virginia. Please contact me if you have questions and families or persons listed in the website. |
